European Flights from East Midlands

East Midlands airport has a limited choice of flights to tourist hotspots in Europe, in spite of that, if you're looking for a city break or searching for some elusive holiday flights this is an excellent place to find the best prices. Fares are updated daily and airfares are all return and include any mandatory charges. Finding the correct price for flights can be difficult, mainly because each airline adds a variety of bizarre charges during the booking process. Nevertheless for price comparison purposes you should find this site very useful.

New routes and Destinations

The sad demise of bmibaby in 2012 has resulted in a number of destinations disappearing, these were mainly cities in Italy including Venice, Verona, Sicily and Sardinia and also in Germany. All other routes have been replaced by Flybe these include Amsterdam, Paris and Jersey, with new daily services. Jet2 have added summer flights to Nice, Ibiza and Menorca (in direct competition with Ryanair) in addition to winter flights to Geneva and Chambery.
Ryanair and Monarch have also decided to expand the number of summer routes from East Midlands and for the first time Jet2 offering flights to the big apple.

About Castle Donington Airport

Skylink buss service at East Midlands Airport Located just a mile south of the village of Castle Donington the airport is conveniently located just 2 miles from junction 23 of the M1 motorway. It's on the doorstep of both Derby and Nottingham and just 20 miles up the motorway from Leicester. Getting to the airport is easy by bus, there is the Skylink service from Nottingham Centre to Airport running half hourly from 4am to 11pm daily. An Airline Shuttle also runs hourly to Loughborough and to Derby bus and train stations. Rainbow 5 bus runs hourly to Long Eaton station and Nottingham. The Arriva 69 Airlink runs to Swadlincote via Melbourne and Ticknall. Sadly there is no train or tram station at the airport, bus, car or taxi are the only options, at least the Inter-city main line railway station at Derby is only 40 minutes away by bus.

News

Over 190 long haul destinations with Air France via Paris have now been added due to a codeshare agreement with flybe, well over 100 routes have short transfer times in the French capital. Obviously not all routes via Paris have suitable connections but the choice to South American, the U.S. and South East Asian destinations have a convenient stopovers using the early morning flybe flight. We have checked prices on many routes and found them competitive, they are selling for the same price as Heathrow, Manchester or Birmingham. These fares are currently only purchasable direct with Air France, not with flybe, click here to check the latest fares with Air France.
Advantages of using East Midlands
Checkin at East Midlands By usual airport standards East Midlands is rarely really crowded, all facilities are in a compact single terminal, walking distances are reasonably short from entering the departure terminal to the boarding gate. Check in, baggage retrieval and customs can sometimes be busy, but most of the time they do operate efficiently. From in-airport user questionnaire surveys the airport is rated high for location, cleanliness, free wifi access and few flight delays, but is often marked down for delays at security and expensive parking. In our opinion parking prices are not to bad! well off airport, our advice is to book ahead, parking is then "only" costs £30/week. On airport you will pay more than this for just 24 hours.
Disadvantages
Although the airport is well connected with A roads and the M1 nearby, it's still a pig to get to during the rush hours. There are long delays leaving and entering the motorway near the airport. This popular airport with nearly 5 million passengers each year lacks a train station, and yet is only a couple of miles from the Midlands mainline. If you are an airport shopaholic you will be sorely disappointed, on the bright side it means more holiday cash.

What we Think

The airport is well located, close to motorway and major cities, most flights leave and depart on time, it's a stress free airport but with not many facilities. The number of destinations is limited but new KLM and Air France codeshare arrangements will allow long haul routes to mushroom.
