Public Transport from Johannesburg Airport (JNB), South Africa
Jo burg Tambo International Airport EntranceThe city's large re-named OR Tambo International Airport (old name Jan Smuts Airport) has 6 connected terminals, serving domestic and international air traffic, with plenty of parking facilities. It lies 13 miles east of Johannesburg (locally called Jo'burg, Jozi or eGoli) and is clearly signposted off the R24 and R21 Pretoria highways.
Taxi Use officially approved Itram kiosks for taxi, shuttle and bus reservations to avoid touting hassle, see Itram airport taxi website.
Bus Use the public transport information desk in the Domestic Arrivals terminal for local advice. Private bus companies operate services to the city centre and other areas, info & tickets are available from company desks in the International Arrivals hall. Many large hotels have courtesy buses, but book in advance or call them from the airport.
In the city itself, City Slicker hop-on hop-off double deckers are a good way to travel around, the 3 hour round trip includes Soweto. From Park Station transit centre in Jo'burg city, long-distance bus services can be booked to Mozambique, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
Train The new airport Gautrain at the airportThe new airport Gautrain train station was completed in 2010 for the FIFA World Cup and now links Jo'burg airport to Sandton Station (15 minute journey into the main business district and tourist area), and to the rest of the Gautrain high-speed transport system to Pretoria.
