Airlines Flying from Newcastle Airlines flying from Newcastle to Europe

It's Jet2 which has by far the largest number of destinations(28) flying out of their North East hub, from the popular holiday resorts near Alicante in Spain to the beautiful romantic city of Venice in Italy. Their summer schedule is mainly aimed at holidaymakers using these flights as part of a package, but there are still real bargains to be had for flight only passengers, just book early for the best prices. The main competitor to Jet2 is Easyjet with sixteen routes, they are competing directly on most Spanish flights, in addition Thomson Airways and Jet2 both now have scheduled flights to all the Canary Islands from Newcastle. For the rest, other airlines concentrate on European capital cities, but Flybe have now started to expand at Newcastle with 4 seasonal routes but Ryanair still only goes to Dublin and Girona. KLM have 5 daily departures to Amsterdam and these are really important for the vast array of connecting long haul routes out of Newcastle. Air France have their 3 direct flights to Paris each day (Flybe also has 2 daily departures but there is unsurprisingly no codeshare on this route).

NewsEmirates Boeing 777-300ER at Newcastle airport

After nearly 6 years in the North East, Emirates have increased the capacity of their Newcastle to Dubai route. The massive 451 seat Emirates Boeing 777-300ER allows an increase in passenger numbers of 35%, we expect Emirates to carry about 150,000 out of Tyneside in 2013. This growth of traffic in 2013 to 2014 should come from destinations in Australasia, the Qantas Emirates alliance gives travellers a wide range of destinations in the Southern Hemisphere.

The airport has great road and rail links, it lies just off A696, 6 miles north west of Newcastle City. It is also convenient for Sunderland just 55 minutes by direct Tram and Middlesbrough and Darlington via the city.
    Public Transport
The airport Metro connects to Newcastle Central Train station in just 25 minutes. With trains from Edinburgh taking only 2 hours making it's a good choice for Scottish passengers, with many airfares lower than those north of the border. Bus services are limited, the Metro tram is used by most by travellers using public transport, only the local Go North East 353 bus service is of any use for short journeys.
Taxis from AirportTaxis to and from the city center takes between 15 and 30 minutes, fares should be about £12.

Punctuality, the average delay for all flights was just 10 minutes in 2012, that's good, even by regional airport standards, when reviewing local airports, Newcastle regularly comes near the top in surveys. During 2012 Newcastle had the best on time performance, as measured by the CAA.
Stress Free, recommended by most for short queues at check-in, security and passport control, assuming you avoid the daily departure or arrival of the 400 passengers on the daily Emirates flights, although it has a compact single terminal there is a good choice of shops bars and restaurants with free wifi.
    Disadvantages
The biggest drawback is the lack of long haul destinations, the Dubai flight is the only intercontinental scheduled service. Currently the airport has no transatlantic flights to the U.S. or Canada, the alternative routes to New York is either via Heathrow with BA, taking between 9 and 11 hours, but the cheapest flights to the States and the most convenient, is with KLM via Amsterdam. Fortunately, this local authority controlled airport is expected to see an expansion of new routes in the next 12 months. Other negative feedback has been the cost of high season parking, prices are well above average, our advice is to use the good public transport when convenient.

What we ThinkMetro Train at Newcastle Airport

There are some really atrocious airports in the UK, but not here on Tyneside. An airport so close to major cities and trunk routes (A1 and A69), combined with Tyne and Wear's first class light rail Metro should really be a hit with passengers, and it is. Punctuality levels are some of the best of any British airport, facilities can sometimes be a bit crowded but overall we would recommend this airport.
