This site is a real goldmine if you're looking for the cheapest flights, a bargain is just a couple of clicks away, just don't forget share this website.

Unlike so many UK airports Southampton has managed, during a painful Europe wide recession, to slightly increase the choice of destinations to Europe from England's largest South coast city. While some airports in England have lost over half their passengers and face closure, Southampton's future seems secure as long as flybe continues to prosper. If you live in or around Southampton or Portsmouth we recommend you give your local airport a try this year.
  • Find the sun this spring and autumn with return flights to Alicante, Malaga, Barcelona or Faro for under £100.
  • Flybe has a good range of winter routes into the Alps, check prices to Salzburg, Chambery and Geneva.
  • France has so many hidden gems, hop over and explore beautiful Brittany, choose from either Breast or Nantes from around £80 return, or try our favourite, the attractive La Rochelle just down the Atlantic coast.

Changes to Flybe destinations from Southampton

In 2014 flybe added an extra winter ski destination to Grenoble, this is in addition to their Chambery and Geneva services. The most important announcement in 2014 was their new destination to Germany. Southampton now has an all year daily evening service to Hamburg, although primarily indented as a business route it is a attractive destination for a city break at any time of year. We particularly recommend a visit to Hamburg Christmas Markets between November and Christmas, flight timings make this a convenient weekend visit.

News

Eastern Airways have now stopped all flights to Brussels, this was a popular route and it's come as a bit of a surprise. The alternative is to fly from Heathrow with BA or Brussels Airlines. For some good news, Blue Islands have increased the number of daily this summer to Jersey and Guernsey. On the development side, the BAA owners have indicated there are no immediate plans for a runway extension this should cause a big sigh of relief from long suffering local residents.
Advantages of using Southampton
Check in at Southampton Location, it's only 3 miles north of the city centre, and very close to junction of M3 and M27, both road and rail access to Southampton airport is first class. South West Trains Parkway Station is just 60 yards from the airport terminal building, trains take just 7 minutes to Southampton city centre or 60 minutes to London Waterloo Station. The airport is adjacent to the A335 and just half a mile from junction 5 on the M25 which is 2 miles from the M3, Portsmouth is 15 miles away to the east and Bournemouth 25 miles to the west.

Taxis from AirportTaxis take less than 20 minutes to Cruise liner and ferry port or if you have time use the cheaper Uni-Link bus from airport to the docks.

All airport facilities are in a compact single terminal, walking distances are short, from entering the departure terminal to boarding. Many will disagree but we have found baggage processing and customs to be busy but operate efficiently. Airport users reviews recommend the airport for location, cleanliness and "relatively" few delays.
Disadvantages
The short runway means a very limited of range of destinations, with adverse weather conditions, holiday hotspots like Alicante and Malaga sometimes require a refuelling stop at Bournmenth airport a couple of minutes after departing Southampton (this may sound daft but it's true). The airport can be often crowded, delays unfortunately are not infrequent, due to the nature of the building it does get crowded. Although the airport is well connected with Motorway A roads and the nearby motorways, heavy traffic nearby can sometimes be problem. In our opinion parking prices are high, our advice is to always to use public transport when possible.

What we ThinkSouthampton Airport Location Map

An airport so close to motorways and major cities, with excellent public transport should really be a hit with passengers, it is. Fortunately most flights do arrive and depart on time, this is important because the lack of facilities and crowded terminal can be a real pain. The number of flybe destinations to Europe is limited but we do expect new routes as UK economic growth picks up and consumer confidence returns.
