Thomas Cook Airlines - The sunshine charter

Thomas Cook Airlines is classed as Britain's 2nd largest holiday charter airline. Formerly called JMC Airlines, it was renamed Thomas Cook Airlines UK in March 2003. The UK-based airline is part of the huge Thomas Cook AG leisure group and runs charter flights to most of the main Mediterranean holiday destinations and beyond. Thomas Cook AG is the parent company of Thomas Cook tour operator, Condor Airlines, FlyThomasCook, JMC, Sunset Holidays, Neilson, Style, Club 18-30 and other subsidiaries. The total number of UK holidaymakers flying with Thomas Cook travel company reaches almost 3 million each year.

Thomas Cook Routes and Destinations

Thomas Cook Airlines UK has its main base in Manchester, with other established flight hubs at London Gatwick, London Stansted, Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham East Midlands, Glasgow and Newcastle. In summer, the airline operates charter flights from more UK airports. They now fly yearly from 21 UK airports to over 80 destinations worldwide.
Seasonal short haul flights go to all the main sunshine holiday resorts in Spain, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Portugal, the Canaries and Italy. More distant holiday routes include winter sun breaks to the Gambia and Sharm El Sheikh on the Red Sea, flights to Sanford in Florida and 7 destinations in Canada.

    Booking The website thomascook.com offers an online-booking system for cheap flight deals, holidays, hotels and cruises. The website flythomascook.com is currently the seat-only, low cost flights site for Thomas Cook travel company. Both websites have flight-only offers. Unlike many other low cost airlines, they can offer low fares for late booking. Flight tickets will be emailed to you after booking online, print these off. Credit card booking costs £2.50 per passenger per flight, Debit cards bookings free. All flights are ATOL protected.
    Seats Specific seats or seats together can be pre-booked for £10 short haul, £20 long haul, before you fly. The seat pitch (amount of legroom) on Thomas Cook Airlines flights is 30" long haul and 28" short haul, and is described by many as tight, especially on short haul routes. Extra legroom seats next to emergency exits can be prebooked for £30-£50 rtn, £100 rtn long haul, (for able bodied passengers only). Upgrade to Premium Economy Class on long haul flights for a more comfortable 34" seat pitch. Seat width is also rather narrow, wider seats can be purchased for an extra fee when reserving seats online. Alternatively, larger passengers could book 2 seats located side by side.
    Food Inflight meals are not included in the flight cost, but can be pre-selected from £6.50 and cater for special dietary requirements. Keep your invoice for proof of meal purchase. Flights to Canada do include meals.
    Baggage Free baggage allowance is 15 kg pp, this can be increased to 20kg for £5 pre-booked fee each way.(max 30 kg per individual item). No baggage allowance for infants without a seat, buggies free. Hand baggage allowance is 5 kg max 43x28x23cm, any extra excess baggage will be charged for. Sports equipment such as surfboards, golf clubs, diving tanks and bicycles are accepted if there is space, but pre-book by telephoning 0870 243 0416, charges and conditions apply.
    Check-in Check-in desks close 60 minutes before departure time at each airport, so be early. Priority check-in is available from Manchester and Gatwick for an extra £15 per adult, £5 per child. There is no online check-in.
    Flights from London Gatwick depart at South Terminal, from Manchester Terminal 1, from Glasgow Terminal 2, from Birmingham Terminal 1 Main Hub.
    Flight changes Name or date changes can be done online or by telephone, but are expensive, from £20-£30 plus £20 administration fee and any fare increase. No refund is given for flight cancellations. If flight times are changed by the airline or operator, notification is emailed to you. Reconfirm your flights at least 48 hours before departure via flythomascook.com or the sales centres.
    Aircraft Thomas Cook Airlines fleet consists of AirbusA320 (180 seats), Airbus A330 (354 seats), Boeing 757-200 (187-235 seats), Boeing 757-300 (280 seats).
